The Rock Hostel is a great place to stay for any tourist. the common area with a modern and clean kitchen is perfect for cooking and socializing. the availability of tea and coffee is a nice touch. the good wifi is a bonus for staying connected.

I recently stayed at The Rock Hostel in Matera for a few days while exploring the city. The hostel was new and incredibly clean, with all the necessary amenities in the kitchen. The spacious bedrooms had plenty of room for luggage and even had private lockers. The staff, especially Francesca at the reception desk, were extremely friendly and helpful, providing excellent recommendations for affordable and high-quality restaurants. I was impressed with their commitment to recycling and overall care for the guests. The hostel's location was perfect, being close to the Sassi and a supermarket.
Would be happy to recommend this hostel.

The bathroom in the dorm room was amazing, with two showers, sinks, and toilets. The free coffee and tea were a nice touch, and the brand new dishes and appliances were a bonus. Plus, the staff member, Francesca, was incredibly kind and helpful, giving me a detailed description of the surrounding area and providing a map. She even did my laundry for a small fee. The hostel had beautiful vaulted ceilings with fossils embedded in them, which was really cool.
The shower curtain that kept blowing into the shower and sticking to my body. It would have been better if there was a door or something to prevent this from happening.

Perfectly located, close to the main attractions. Super clean, cosy, and comfortable. Fully equipped kitchen with all the necessities. Francesca, the host, is amazing! She's kind, helpful, and genuinely cares about making your stay enjoyable. She provides great recommendations and is very knowledgeable about the area. A truly enjoyable experience!

Very cute and helpful staff. Impeccablysuper clean and cozy. Great location near the Sassi. Plenty of good tips and local knowledge. Helpful and accommodating with bookings. Well-equipped and well-maintained. Were very good too assist guests. Convenient amenities like tea and coffee.
For us it was ideal.

The location is fantastic, just a short walk from one of the best viewpoints of the Sasssi. the rooms are clean and tastefully designed, with interesting half-vaulted bathrooms. the owner, Francesca, is incredibly accommodating and helpful, going out of her way to assist her guests. She even called the bus company to confirm the schedule during snowy weather. the hostel provides a well-equipped kitchen and common area, perfect for socializing with other guests.
The lack of air conditioning may be uncomfortable during hot weather, although windows can be opened to allow ventilation.

The nearest airport was just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Thank goodness, I didn't have to take a carriage ride to get here!
Oh, the shower curtains were just delightful. They were so fabulous, I couldn't help but want to replace them myself.

Friendly and Helpful Hosts
She took the time to give us a detailed map of the city, pointing out all the must-visit spots and providing valuable tips. The hostel's central location was convenient, with the Sassi just a 5-minute walk away and the train station only 10 minutes away. The bed was comfortable, the locker secure, and the shower was amazing. And a supermarket right across the street was a bonus. The hostel's modern and clean kitchen was equipped with everything we needed for cooking. The internet speed was excellent, and the room was spacious and tidy. Francesca's intellectual and friendly nature made our stay more fun. I highly recommend this hostel for a nice and comfortable stay in Matera.

I recently took a risk and stayed at Rock Hostel for my trip to Matera. As a 40-year-old traveler, I was worried about feeling out of place, but I had a fabulous stay. The place was impeccably clean, the guests were friendly, and the best part was Francesca, the owner/operator. She was always available to answer questions and give recommendations, showing her love for her hometown and being an all-around wonderful human being. A top-notch experience!
Can't recommend this hotel highly enough.
